I did some research for you, and it turns out the word “satchel” derives from the word “saccus,” which is Latin for “bag.” The diminutive form of the word, “saccellus,” gave way to the French word, “sachel,” which eventually evolved into our English word “satchel.” For extra word fun, that original Latin word, “saccus,” also gives us the word “sack.” And now you know. And you’ll never have to not know again. 🙂
By the by, please feel free to give the wrist wallet to someone else. I just really dig words and etymology, and so figured that, though you weren’t really asking about it seriously, you might like to know.
