Show me what you can do

SHOW ME WHAT YOU CAN DO

#DailyMischief

I sometimes I think in September and October the blog gets bogged down with TOO MUCH of my fundraising. On one hand I must spread the word, and on the other hand, I am sure you get pissed off at the incessant prodding about my causes and will more than likely leave me. I know. Serious abandonment issues. Plus, I’m a little neurotic when it comes to you, my readers. You’ve been here for me through pretty much everything (pssst…. don’t leave me).

And I promise guys, I do try  to keep things here on the blog light and separate from my fundraising efforts whenever possible, but my life is consumed  these two months. So what else am I going to talk about? They happen to also be my two busiest months next to the holidays because – as you probably figured out – they are back-to-back cancer awareness months (Ovarian and Breast cancer, respectively).

So indulge me a little, and I promise to sprinkle the FUN in here and there too. Deal? The fundraising will be over after October!

Now here is what’s going on, as well as a WHAT WENT DOWN DURING LAST MONTH’S FUNDRAISER:

OVARIAN CANCER MONTH

In September (the teal month) I created a beautiful, affordable single charm bracelet, pictured here:

MsCheevious Charm Bracelet

as well as a few other products (pins and magnets) that said “Do something to stop ovarian cancer.” I took my own icon for Ms. Cheevious

mscheevious_painting

and adapted it into a teal image. All of the proceeds for that campaign went to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.  We raised one dollar per item (that was my profit, believe it or not. I know. I need to find a better supplier because the money these companies are making off my hard work is downright ridiculous), and raised a total of $53.00.

Don’t spread the hate. I know it’s nothing huge to write home about, but I’m doing SOMETHING, which is more than I can say for the masses. I am quite happy with the results, considering I merely emailed it to you all and shared it on facebook and twitter. But guess what? You can still buy any of these SUPER AFFORDABLE items (you guys, we’re talking about buying yourself one less Cafe Latte in most cases), and we’ll save up the profits for next September as well. Here is the artwork that appears on the charm as well as the other items.

AND NOW IT’S TIME FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

And for October, I’ve started selling two very cool items. I just ordered mine so unfortunately I’m unable to provide in-the-flesh modeling photos. You poor things.

And all of the proceeds for these benefit FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered), the organization that supports those afflicted by hereditary breast & ovarian cancer. The links for each are below.

THE MS. CHEEVIOUS BREAST CANCER LUGGAGE TAG

It’s $10.95 plus shipping & handling. I have this same tag, but it’s got my icon from above (in the regular “red”) as the artwork, and I absolutely LOVE IT. It’s SUPER sturdy, well-made and stands out at the luggage carousel!

Get one for everyone in your life who travels and make a statement about Breast Cancer (the more you buy, the more worthwhile the shipping cost!).

And guys, if the NFL can sport pink, by GOD so can you.

BCA_LuggageTag

The luggage tags can be purchased (it’s in stock and will ship in 3-5 days) here: http://www.zazzle.com/ms_cheevious_breast_cancer_awareness_tag_luggage_tag-256702722007252191

THE MS. CHEEVIOUS BREAST CANCER NECK SCARF

I’ve ordered mine in the dark gray (far right), but it’s available in nine different colors. It’s slightly sheer, but super long and pretty, and the writing and pink ribbon on it is small enough to be elegant, but large enough to make a statement. I’ve also made this item customizable, so you can add “In memory of______” to the scarf if you would like. It’s a fantastic item for fall and says it all – SAVE.THE.BOOBIES people.

BCA_NeckScarf_Colors

This item is $22.95 plus shipping and handling. I’ll post a photo of me in mine just as SOON as it arrives. Get the scarves here: http://www.zazzle.com/ms_cheevious_hereditary_breastcancer_scarf-256814118370194079

That’s it people. I’m spent. I’ve pushed, I’ve prodded. It is now your turn to do some good. Show me what you can do.

When it is time to consult a higher power

August 30, 2013 by MsCheevious

This morning M.C. Nugget and I got up, and jumped into the day. Last night we went to the Santa Monica Pier’s Twilight Concert to hear Trombone Shorty from New Orleans.

Somehow I managed to pose for this decent photo.

After a great evening with friends, I woke up this morning feeling pretty playful.

At about 10 AM, after I’d already unleashed a can of cool on Twitter and Facebook, and any other place that would listen, Nuggie announced he was off to the gym to get in a quick workout, among other things. This could have ruined my day. I love working out, but my schedule is totally WRECKED since my hormones finally kicked in, and I wasn’t sure if I could make a workout happen today.

When he first said he was going to the gym, I immediately said, “I would LOVE to workout!” I looked up and to the right and contemplated my day, when I realized I was inadvertently holding my breasts.

I don’t know what you are envisioning in this moment, but it’s not what you think.

It’s like my hands were just… on them while I thought about it.

I immediately realized what I was doing, and you guys, this is where it gets brilliant!

Without blinking an eye, I kept my hands where they were and kept my gaze up and to the right as I squeezed them just a little and said, “Let me consult the boobies.”

Admit it: Boobies could be considered a higher power in MANY situations.

Still… M.C. hasn’t been the same since.

Dear Ovaries: It’s Been Fun…

July 7, 2013 by MsCheevious

By now most anyone who follows my blog, reads my articles or watches my videos all over cyberspace knows that I have the BRCA2 genetic mutation for Breast and Ovarian Cancer.  As a result of discovering this, I opted back in late 2011 and early 2012 to have all of the lovely procedures necessary to alleviate most of my risk (think Angelina Jolie… No.  I mean it. Picture her, because I’m pretty sure I didn’t pull of the glamorous/beautiful thing during those months. I had the puffy/pale thing DOWN though.). You can read any of the articles I’ve written on the subject by clicking here, here, or here.  You can also see coverage and interviews about said procedures on national television and other places by perusing my personal website with most of those links here. In light of my decision, I’ve written a Dear John letter to my ovaries. For anyone who’s ever had ovaries or known anyone with them (and particularly if anyone has witnessed the effects of Ovarian cancer, or lived through it), you should be able to relate to this.

Dear Ovaries:

We’ve been together a long, long time.  You’ve been a significant part of my life – well – forever, and lived with me through everything – the good, the bad and the ugly.  Despite all of that, our relationship has seen its share of ups and downs, to say the least.

Ovaries… I never got over how after our initial thirteen years of peaceful bliss together, things suddenly changed. You got all…  gushy and stuff.  Was it a mid-life crisis?  I guess I’ll never know… but I felt like you became so “high maintenance” then.  And it never let up.  In fact, every single month for about a week or so, like clockwork, something happened and you required unbelievable amounts of extra attention.  Everything became all about “you.”  It was bleeding our relationship dry. From that point on, things between us became – well – strained.

I gained a deeper understanding of our relationship, when I had given birth to my two boys. Somehow, I thought we were destined for better times. I must admit, I made the same mistake that many do, when I thought having the kids would make it all better. On the contrary, the kids needed my attention as well, and I wanted to give everything to them. But your high maintenance shenanigans never let up, and frankly, I didn’t need all the extra effort, energy and work. Sometimes it affected me so much I had to be medicated, ovaries. It wasn’t pretty.

And so, my dear ovaries, you must understand that when I met Brca Gene (Braca for short), I was intrigued. He said everything I needed to hear, and he made things so clear for me. I’d already witnessed my sister’s relationship with her ovaries end horribly. In fact she didn’t make it out alive.  I didn’t want that to happen to us, my love.  So I saw this as an opportunity… a way to set us both free!  Finally you and I both had a chance to be free from the constant neediness… free from the possibility of your getting ill, going insane and turning on me… and free to go on and live our lives… apart (well… that part isn’t probably the best scenario for you, and for that I am sorry).

It hasn’t been an easy decision, ovaries. Honestly, I’ve thought long and hard about this… but after all we’ve been through, and what I now know about you from Braca… well, I’m going to have to say goodbye.  It’s been fun, but now it’s over, ovaries.

Sayonara, Adios, Don’t let the door hit you on the ass – uh – tube…

I’m off to live my life with Braca. Don’t think for a minute that I’m naive about this new relationship. I know it will have its own set of challenges, but I’m going in with my eyes wide open and a hopeful outlook for a long life together.

With love and appreciation for all you’ve done in my life…

Me

Dear John

Enjoy your week everyone!

Love you people!!!!
