Remembering…

May 27, 2012 by MsCheevious

Before you dive in, let me first say, this article is not about our wonderful troops – incredible as they are, and so worthy of remembering and honoring.  This post will aim to go much deeper, and hopefully turn your eyes, your mind and your heart toward home — toward the people you’ve lost or simply lost touch with, whether they’ve served our country or not.  It will make an effort to turn your thoughts toward connections, which, though sometimes cut off or broken, should never be forgotten.

That said, let’s not forget on this Memorial Day in the United States, why it was was established in the first place: as a special day to remember those who’ve died in our nation’s service.

One can sense the lack of enthusiasm for this as you travel west from the cradle of our nation’s birth (near Boston), and continue as far as the land of the Wild Wild West and the Cradle of our Nation’s Gold Rush. It seems that if a person has grown up in a state that lacks the monuments for the Revolutionary War or the Civil War history, they’re less likely to feel a deep sense of tradition or responsibility to acknowledge those who were tortured, shredded by shrapnel or torn by explosions while serving our country. Even though many did this out of passion for a belief, and to accomplish what they truly felt was DAMN RIGHT on behalf of our country and our people, it’s not something people truly remember or feel something for these days.

I’m not sure WHAT it takes to rally the passions (and actions to back it up) among us these days.  And if you point me to Occupy Wallstreet I will hurl.

Also, if you ask people to participate in your reality or comedy series, or a flash mob you’ve got game.  Talk to them about devoting their life to ANYTHING and you lose them before you can squeak out “devo…”

I’m sure this doesn’t apply to everyone, but it’s prevalent.  Why do you think Occupy Wallstreet was met with such mixed response?  Scratch that.  Don’t answer that. We’re not going there today. Let’s get back to the crux of this piece…

This article is about you and me.  It’s about the connections we’ve made with very important people in our lives, or along the way in our journeys.  It’s about not allowing those memories of people who impacted us to simply sit or fade away.

I love Memorial Day for the depth it can carry. While many people in the U.S. are grilling, socializing and reveling in the fun of the long holiday weekend, I think it is also important to realize the reason we are on holiday.

This Memorial Day I wish to remember people I call heroes in my world.

1) My dad, otherwise known as Orville Joe Sherwood, or Papa Joe to his grandkids is my hero.  He is first here on the list because though he didn’t die in our nation’s service, he served for a full lifetime as an enlisted man, and left the Navy as Chief Petty Officer when he retired.  He is a hero because he was the net that surrounded and supported my mom and kept all eleven of us kids in line when we needed it most. I miss him when I see things happen now in our family that should never happen. I have to ask if he’d been around longer than his short 65 years, would things be different?  Though I’m not sure, I seem to think so.  He is a HERO to me and all of my family, as well as many of his best friends who remembered him well throughout his life.  He was the happy-go-lucky man who was a wonderful compliment to his wife – my mom. My dad smoked cigarettes, and suffered for years through Emphysema and heart disease before he was killed by a cancer none of us knew even existed.  He passed away in March of 1988.

2) My mother Nereide Francis Padalino Sherwood is my hero, God bless the woman.  She (like dad) was raised during the Great Depression in a single parent home. This made for one TOUGH woman. But she held to the love of her life – the Catholic Church – with all its rules and regulations, and despite the trends of the day, kept getting pregnant and HAVING all those kids. THANK GOD, because I am number TEN of ELEVEN kids she had.  I’m sure she THANKED GOD as well, because I was her favorite. Yep.  I said that. But the thing that makes my mom a hero is her attitude.  My mom was the one who made all of us feel as though we could and WOULD accomplish anything we put our minds to. If we wanted something all we needed to do was work toward it to make it happen. There was never a question in her mind, and subsequently in my mind. She is also the one who laughed at herself and at life.  She taught us to laugh at the same things. So of course, we all laughed at her, and then, yes, we laughed at ourselves. A classic line my mom is remembered for, which busted up (for some, to the point of tears), all who were present: “Ohhhh!  What a BONER!”  She MEANT to say ‘what a bummer’, and we knew it but we CRACKED up and never let her live it down. She laughed at herself then too. She was Lucille Ball incarnate, and I like to think that I follow in her footsteps in that regard.  It’s my badge of honor.

3) My beautiful, vibrant and larger than life sister Mimi – or Mary Louise Sherwood Larimore (also known as Maven in Ms. Cheevious-land). She was the sister who was closest in age to me, so of course she is my hero. Had she never come home from shopping with her girlfriends in eighth grade, having spent her allowance to buy me a Donny Osmond album, it wouldn’t have mattered. I idolized her anyway. But she did that, and I was forever in awe. On top of her good heart and incredibly hilarious wit, she was the one in the family who could cut through all the bullshit and called a spade a spade. PERIOD. No harm, no foul. If you heard the wrath of Mimi it was because you probably deserved it.  On the flip side, if she unleashed on you in error she was the first to inform everyone she’d made the error and ask for forgiveness. She was REAL, FUNNY, BOLD and COURAGEOUS. She took each of those intense qualities with her to the grave when she lost her 7 year battle with Ovarian Cancer. She is my all-time hero. I loved her and the wound is still open and raw, but I remember her and I never want to forget.

Mimi Sherwood Larimore - a.k.a. Maven

Who is it for you? Who are the people in your world who you’d like to remember? Perhaps it’s someone who is still alive, but you’ve lost touch.  Whatever the case, I encourage you to spend a few minutes on this Memorial Day to put some thought and purpose into the holiday – after you’ve had your fun, if necessary. It is so important to remember those people that have elicited change or at minimum, thoughtfulness in our lives.  It is the ultimate show of respect to think of them today, and if they are alive, perhaps even let them know you thought of them in such a way.

Enjoy your day everyone!  Tune in next time for something truly amazing.

Love you people!!!!! Mmmmppphhhuuuhhhh!!!!

xoxo,

Ms. Cheevious

Media Mogul Ms.

January 23, 2012 by MsCheevious

**My apologies to my subscribers for the email you may have received while my crack-team (no.  not my team on crack) of site programmers work out the bugs on a new email format! Now onto today’s post!**

Okay Rupert Murdoch: hopefully you’re not in jail for phone hacking, because I may need your help.

There’s a new media upstart in town and she’s… of all things… using her REAL NAME (cue scare chord, as they say in music/film).

I confess.  She happens to be the creator of this website, the Ms. Cheevious book, the YouTube channel, Twitter, Facebook page and well — ME.  But STILL!  Will she stop at nothing?

I suppose not, because here, this is MY blog, and I’m spreading the word like a pawn in her sinister game of chess.  The goal?  World domination, no doubt.  And, I can’t — re–zist— tell–ing… (grunt) you– about — (moan) — the  —  #%!/  — new — YouTube channel!!!  Whew!!! (Exhausted).

So here it is – her first video on her (read with sarcasm) NEW Channel! Neener neener neener & La-Di-friggin-Dah:

If you can’t see the video box above, click here or copy/paste this link into a browser window: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIuADlcACk4&context=C3528ddeADOEgsToPDskLFoyPePK7v5_9f6ffoEYv3

Go there NOW, would you?  No one can predict what she’ll do to me (or any of us) if you don’t!

I’m told this is a Vlog site – so no shows or comedy.  But if you ask me she’s a real crack pot – I mean – crack up all on her own.

Lemme know what you think you gorgeous men and women!

Love you people!!!!! Mmmmppphhhuuuhhh!!!

xoxo,

Ms. Cheevious

Gotta love the Dog

June 21, 2011 by MsCheevious

Before I begin I don’t wanna hear anything about how NON Ms. Cheevious this post is, unkay? Trust me. I’m still creating fun, pleasure, frivolity and the enjoyment of life for all around, whenever humanly possible.

But Ms. Cheevious is entitled to have a heart too – so today I wanted to share this pic of me n my puppy (he’s ten now) Puggy.

Guess what breed he is? Ha! And, yes, my son, then six, named him. He was really bought for my son, but I arranged for the training and participated heavily (and of course, managed the puppy’s entire upbringing in his (and my younger son’s) formative years). Puggy became a part of our lives and our family, and we loved (and still do love) that snorty, spunky, squirrely little creature! I cannot recall a time in life with my son in first-fourth grade without Puggy jumping around when we walked in the door, or hiding because he’d torn apart the trash, or some other quirky behavior. Shortly after that Puggy went to live with my son’s dad because my work schedule made his alone time far too unfair to him.

He was recently diagnosed with skin cancer (or so my son says – he lives with my son and his dad out of state in NM now), so while I am here in NM visiting, I took some time to let the animal with the BLUE RIBBON stinky breath lick my arms and hands and face. Ew. But it was worth it.

Love the creatures and humans around you, people!  They are who/what make us the beautiful people we are!

20110618-093427.jpg

That’s all I got for now. Hope your week has been great and you continue the work of creating beauty, fun and yumminess all around you!

Love you people!!!!

Mmmmmpppphhhuuuhhhh!

XOXO,
Ms. Cheevious

Yep. I’m a Crazy Woman.

June 15, 2011 by MsCheevious

But at least I’m still smilin’! HA! I am fast approaching trip number three of FOUR – count ’em – FOUR trips I have planned in the span of six weeks.

On top of this I’m in the midst of financial reorganization (taxes and all that entails), ramping up my blog and related social media platforms (watch for it! Coming soon!) in anticipation of the long awaited publication of my award-winning book “Ms. Cheevious in Hollywood – Confessions of a Hot Mamma” (the alternate title “MILF This! Confessions of a Hollywood Mamma” warrants a vote among you, my readers), as well as the production of more videos and the goal of turning those (at my YouTube Channel www.YouTube.com/IamMsCheevious) into better quality shows, with opening and closing music and more. Then there are the hot mommy products to enhance and support book sales, and oh, the time and work involved.

Let’s not forget, I am the mother of two boys (one who’s grown and the other who lives with dad out of state – whom I am traveling to visit this week), and the girlfriend of M.C. Nugget (for you newbies, I change the names of everyone close to me in my world, unless of course they don’t want me to), who is a busy, working actor and writer, and I am – don’t forget my bread and butter! – the solopreneur of a growing Marketing and PR firm, serving as marketing and branding specialist and publicist to actors, performers, notables and businesses to boot!

Now, in case you were already thinking I was crazy, with no further convincing necessary, let me provide a peak into my infrastructure to add a little steroid to my situation: I recently switched all operations from PC to Macintosh and from Blackberry to iPhone. This is not the seamless transition lauded by the great folks at my neighborhood Apple store, let me assure you!

I’ve cursed in ways even a sailor didn’t know was possible, and certainly I’ve never done, not even in my most rebellious teenage years. I’ve been the reason people have left the field of customer service for the asylum. Forget my funny “Customer Service Hell” video I recently produced (see blog stream on home page)!! I probably should produce an episode entitled “Customer Hell” as I could be the poster child for horrible customers, based on my roller coaster emotions and behavior over recent months!

Am I Crazy? You bet! But despite it all people, I am truly Enjoying Every Moment!

Oh and I wrote this entire post from my new iPhone app!

I can’t provide you all the links I normally do here, to post comments and reply messages from this App, so my lovelies, you will have to find me and post them on your own! (I’m speaking to email subscribers here, of course)!!

Have a fabulously CRAZY weekend you gorgeous boys and girls!

Love you people!!!!

Mmmmmpppphhhuuuhhhh!

XOXO,
Ms. Cheevious

What I Gave and Got… My True Hollywood Christmas Story

January 10, 2011 by MsCheevious

PFFFAHHH! Gotcha!

You thought this story would take place in Hollywood, didn’t you, my little celeb-u-files? Well… not so much. But WAIT! I do live in Los Angeles / Hollywood / Santa Monica (it’s all the same), and I did give my oldest son a gift on the Saturday before Christmas at a little place called Tender Greens (one of my fav’s), just  a stone’s throw from Sony Pictures Studio (where he works)!  Plus I SHIPPED a few gifts from Hollywood!  Does that count? Just because I was 30 miles north of Boston on Christmas eve and Christmas day, not all is lost you entertainment fiends… don’t you worry. Emcee Nugget (my boyfriend and partner in crime), the quintessential Hollywood celebrity, ham of all hams, and persona-mysteriosa was on hand throughout my trip to HOLLYWOOD-UP this story for us! So here’s the low down.  And I’m starting with what I GAVE, because, well — COME ON PEOPLE – I’m not THAT shallow.  Okay, maybe I am.  But the reason for the season should not be lost.  People celebrate Christmas – or I should say – there IS a Christmas, because a little tiny baby was born to bring peace and salvation to us all.  THANK GOD (no pun intended)… and we GIVE in celebration of that because we love, right? So here’s WHAT I GAVE because I LOVE:

1) a cool Banana Republic pea coat-style, HOT, black men’s overcoat to Emcee Nugget – because I LOVE the way he looks when he cleans up. (I’ve seen them NOW for like $60 bucks at Zappos)

2) a matching black scarf to go around that sexy neck of his, because hey – I LOVE that sexy neck. heh heh
3) a gas gift card with 50 bucks on it to Nuggie, because he drives us everywhere on our little escapades… and I do love a good ESCAPADE!

4) Money to both my boys, and to the younger one – a snowboarding sweater and shirt from his fave designer line, and a few other miscellaneous items..  The Money I gave because – well — I LOVE having money.  Who doesn’t? It is just (insert Captain Kirk voice here) so. very. useful. And the snowboarding gear – because I love that my younger son is a cool snowboarding STUD.

5) The biography of Sydney Portier – because I love his acting to my sons’ grandpa – because they love their grandpa, and so do I..

6) To my lovely sisters, Nuggie’s mama, and to Nuggie, because he’s watching those lines too… hee hee… A sample pack of my FAVORITE, INCREDIBLE face products…  By esente.  Of course, NOW it’s available for like, 40 bucks… BEAUTY FOR PEANUTS.  Gotta love THAT!!  But I LOVE smooth, silky skin, and these face products are the absolute best!

7) Well of course!  You didn’t think I would forget the COOKIES did you!?  Or the FUDGE!?  Or any other YUMMY treats!?  I gave these to EVERYONE – because I LOVE YUMMY TREATS!!

OOO!  Forgot about the cool little push button motorized hamsters I gave Nuggie.  He is always making fun of, laughing about, or cracking jokes about gerbels, hamsters, goats, lambs… you name it.  If they live in the wild, he’s probably made them the brunt of a joke at one time or another.  These were SO cute!  And, as toys do – there were categories of hamsters.  I happened to buy him one of the Rock Stars (his had a mohawk), and one of the Special Forces (his had a scar on it’s forehead like Harry Potter). I gotta say, those little stocking stuffers were a hit!  We played like little kids. HA HA.

So….  Wanna’ know WHAT I GOT?

1) TONS of love from both my boys – (not to mention the excessively cool wine chiller from Sharper Image) and Nuggie, his family and all of the really awesome people in my life – as well as some really great, warm memories, even though my kids and I were not all together on Christmas.  I don’t know why it is, but boys know how to reach their moms.  🙂

2) A very COOL handbag from Emcee Nugget… One that has a pocket for everything, so I no longer have to refer to any purse I am carrying as the ABYSS.  HA!

3) Very UBER cool VIDEO software from Emcee Nugget.  The product of which you will see in my next post..  all about the BLACK OUT we experienced in Santa Monica.  That one is SCARY!

4) A couple of REALLY AWESOME gift cards – one from Ricky and one from Nuggie’s folks – – awe… they are all just sooo sweet! Gotta keep the shopping queen shoppin’!

5) A total bling-y necklace from my friend Brook to keep me at the height of fashion.

And I just can’t remember the rest in this moment – plus, I gotta get this out to you… It’s already OLD news!  But I must say – it was a really great Christmas… all because of the LOVE people.

Tune in next week for a video blog, or as we techno-babes like to call it “vlog” about the Great Blackout of 2011.

It’ll knock your socks off!

Have a productive, healthy, fit and inspiring week you gorgeous freaks of nature.

Love you people!!!  Mmmppphhhhhhuuuuhhhh!!!

xoxo,

Ms. Cheevious

Speaking of the Twins…

October 22, 2010 by MsCheevious

No, not THOSE twins!

  • I say this on Twitter, and I’ll say it again “Get your mind out of the gutter… it’s blocking my view!”

No – this is about J-Lo doing Gucci ads with her twins!

No, not THOSE twins.  Her KIDS, people (refer to bullet point above)!

Basically J-Lo is modeling with her kids Max and Emme for Gucci.  They’re cute and all, but tell me – what do you think?  I think J-Lo is one HOT mom, and hey – more power to her!  If she wants to expose her kids to modeling and such, that’s fine by me, though I’m sure she isn’t wondering what I think.

Hey, it’s not like the kids don’t see cameras and press everywhere they go anyway.

But enough about what I think.  This is a hot button for many – especially in the wake of all the very sad teen suicides and bullying.  Parents, single moms, single men and women — it seems everyone has an opinion of how kids should be raised.

What’s yours? Inquiring minds what to know.

(You can read all about the Gucci campaign here. but be sure to post your thoughts here!)

Can’t wait to hear what you have to say!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Love you people! Mmmmphhhuuuhhh!!!

xoxo,

Ms. Cheevious
